This request came to the Society of Gilders through the Website I am posting this question as the Executive Secretary.  Thank you for your help in answering the question.

Hello... I would like to find out about the process of appying gilt edges to glass and pottery. I currently use a silver based paint to apply designs to glass, but as this is not bonded to the glass (through firing) it is not a very effective process. I have seen many decorative applications of gilt edges to high quality glass and pottery and would like to use this process for my designs. I look forward to some advice on how to do this.

I am not a potter, however I have come across information about gold on ceramics in some of my research when I was called upon to restore pieces.  There is a mixture of some sort, like the glazes that you use, that is applied to the piece and a low firing is used.  You may find better information from your glazing supplier or New York Central Art Supply (800-950-6111) has a man working in the gold leaf area that is a wealth of information.
