Admin Directions for Website – Members’ Gallery

How to add pictures to the Members’ Gallery

  1. Members fill out a form on our website and upload pictures and captions. The pictures should be 700 pixels wide or less, or you may return them for fixing. The whole set will be delivered to you in an email. Members can send two emails with 3 pictures each.
  2. Download the pictures to a temporary file on your computer. (Once the pictures are correctly on the website, you may delete them from your computer, although I save the emails in case there are any questions later.)
  3. On the dashboard (the left column on your admin screen), select “Pages” then “add new”. Use the member’s name as the title.  In the body, enter the person’s name and make it a link to their website.  In the right column, under “Page Attributes” change “Parent” from “(no parent)” to “Members’ Gallery”.
  4. Point to “Envira Gallery” on dashboard; right click “add new” and select “open link in new tab”.  Give this page the same title as step 3.
  5.  Choose “select images” to upload from your computer.  Open your file and it will upload.  You can select and open several at a time. (If the picture was already uploaded to the webpage media files, choose “…other image sources”.)  Thumbnail Images will appear at the bottom of the “Envira Gallery” box as you upload them.  You can change the order by dragging and dropping.  Click red trashcan icon to delete unwanted image(s).
  6. Then click on the blue pencil icon at the top left of each thumbnail to change the file name into an appropriate title for the image and to add a caption to each picture. Type or cut and paste caption from email form in the box that says “Image caption”.  Click “save metadata” at the bottom right. Then exit that image by clicking the X at the top right of the metadata screen.
  7.  In the left column of the Envira Gallery select “Configuration” tab, which brings up “Gallery Settings”.  Change the number of columns from “Automatic” to “One Column (1)” or whatever looks best,  scroll down mid-way to “Enable Title/Caption Below Image” and check the appropriate box depending on desired result, then scroll down and find “Gallery Theme” and change the theme from “Base” to “Captioned”. This makes the captions visible.
  8. In the right column, scroll back up and click “publish”.  Once published, scroll down and find the Envira Gallery Code in the right column. Copy the including the brackets and paste this into the New Page you created in step 3.gallery-newcode
  9. On the member’s page, click “Publish” in the right column , or if you are editing an existing page, click “update”. If you need to pause, click “Save Draft”. To see the page as it will appear on our website before publishing it, select the “Preview” button by right clicking it and then selecting “open link in new tab”. Once previewed, exit the preview page to close it and return to the New Page and Publish it. The “Add New Page” heading will change to “Edit Page” now that the new page has been published.
  10. In the dashboard of the newly published page, point to “Appearance” in the left column and select “Menus”. In the middle column under the “Pages” heading, check the box of the new page (here, it is “test”, but it will really be the member’s name), then click “Add to Menu”.
  11. gallery10On the right, find the new page name in the list (which will most likely be all the way at the bottom of the list). Click on the triangle to the right of the name to expand the box. Then keep clicking on “up one” until it is in the correct alphabetical position under “Members Gallery”. Another way to move it up is to just left click on the name and hold down the button to grab and move it into the alphabetical list.  As of 6/2020, the names are divided into two groups – A-L and M-Z (not shown).
  12. Scroll up on the Menus page to find the “Save Menu” button at top right, then click it and you’re done! Exit all pages. Review and double check your work by viewing the member’s page on the SOG website.  If it is not updated, go to “Caching” at top of page in back end and clear cache.
