“More Precious than Gold”

We are delighted to welcome  muralist and gilder Lynne Rutter to give a lecture during Conference.  All Lectures are at 9 AM at the ACBA.

The search for color!   For centuries the most expensive material in art was not gold, it was pigment. Lapis lazuli, used to make ultramarine blue, was a famously costly pigment; called out in artists’ contracts, just as we might do with gold leaf today; but a good bright green was even harder to find! The search for colors gave rise to innovations in painting techniques, accidental discoveries, and  the invention of an entirely new science that made possible a world of modern color. 

Lynne Rutter is an artist and muralist based in San Francisco whose work spans four decades of experience and emphasizes site-specific design and authentic materials and techniques. Gilding has long played an important role in Lynne’s practice whether in restoration, ornamentation, or her large scale paintings and verre églomisé pieces.
